My First Handmade Doll Wig

I did some brief research on the internet to learn how to make my own doll wigs. There are a lot of different methods; some detailed and time consuming (I dismissed those) and a few that looked relatively easy and quick (definitely made note of those).

This what I came up with:

This is Moxie Teenz Arizona wearing the new wig which turned out pretty good. 

I bought one bag of hair from a beauty supply store. It's called Ya Man Afro Kinky Braid 100% Kanekalon Fiber,

Red. I used the whole bag. 

I crocheted a wig cap with a size C hook and very fine (crochet thread?) black yarn. Then I folded a piece of hair in half and sewed the pieces onto the wig cap very carefully. When I was done I cut it to the desired length. I may cut it so more. I also sewed some of the hair in place in the front to style it a bit and to cover the wig cap which is black. I didn't have red thread. It probably would've looked a bit better with a red wig cap underneath. It wouldn't be so noticeable. 

I wanted to buy more wigs for my dolls from eBay but I gave up after awhile because the prices are outrageous. 

This is a much cheaper option. It was fun but more importantly it didn't take that much time. I'm definitely going to make more. 

This is Bratzillaz Sashabella wearing the wig. She has a Liv body and a Barbie dress. (Boy, that's a lot of hair).

Here's a Liv's Alexis wearing the wig and an outfit I found on a doll at the thrift store. She looks cute. 

The wig cap is very soft and slippery so I have a piece of Velcro and two pins sticking in the dolls head to keep it on. 

This is a view of the wig from the back and the side. The black that's showing in the 2nd photo is the wig cap. 

All in all, I like making my own wigs. And I hate paying too much for everything on eBay.

Moxie Teenz Arizona

Moxie Teenz by MGA Entertainment are some of the most beautiful dolls I've ever seen. Unfortunately, they've been discontinued. So many of the wigged, articulated dolls have been discontinued. I don't know why. I wish someone could explain to me why there's such high turnover for these fashion dolls. 

Liv fashion dolls by Spin Master (also discontinued) are my favorite and have the absolute best articulation. But Moxie Teenz had better clothes and accessories and beautiful faces. 

This is Arizona. She has blue, acrylic, inset eyes and gorgeous brown skin. This is the outfit and wig that she came with. She originally had ugly, tacky gold plastic jewelry that I got rid of. And I immediately lost the ring that was on her right hand. I knew that wouldn't last long. I cut off the off white, lace tights that were attached to the skirt because the were ugly and reminded me of the Eighties. I DO NOT want to be reminded of the Eighties. 

I got her for a very reasonable price on eBay. Sellers on eBay usually sell discontinued dolls for insane amounts of money. I can't believe that anyone would buy from those sellers who are obviously trying to rip people off. If I ever find another Moxie Teenz for a decent price, I'll definitely buy it. 

Here she is without her wig. Her face and eyes are beautiful. She has long beautiful lashes. I think she's supposed to be biracial or Hispanic. 

Here she is with a different MT wig and her accessories. She's sitting on a love seat that made out of a box, a gift bag, paper and duct tape. 

Here she is standing next to Liv doll, Alexis. Alexis is done up like she could be a character from the movie, Blade Runner. The Liv doll is 11 1/2 inches. Arizona is 14 inches. 

In this photo she's wearing a Liv Daniella wig. She looks good in different wigs. 

A Moxie Teenz wig I got from ToysRUs for $3. Right now idiots are trying to sell these same wigs for exorbitant amounts of money on eBay. They should be ashamed of themselves. 

Another MT $3 wig and a dress and a hat that I made for her. I learned how to make the dress from a My Froggy Stuff tutorial on YouTube. The hat tutorial is by Chad Alan on YouTube. 

The only highly articulated dolls I see at ToysRUs and Target , right now, are Monster High and Barbie Fadhionistas by Mattel and Bratziilaz by MGA Entertainment. All the good dolls have been discontinued. Moxie Girlz suck. They're a cheap version of Bratz. They're isn't anything special about them. Bratz Catz are articulated as well but I don't see them in stores any more, either. 

I'm bored with Monster High and I CAN'T STAND Barbies. I might just stop collecting dolls until companies start putting out more dolls like Moxie Teenz, Liv and BFC, Ink. 

Right now, I'll just focus on the dolls that I have.

Cody Simpson and Making Waves 'Jake'

Today I found these Cody Simpson dolls at ToysRUs. The singing one cost $3 and the other one was $1. 

I have no idea who Cody Simpson is. I really don't care, either.  The back of the box says he's a teen heartthrob from Australia. He looks like a pimpled faced teen with bizarre hair. 

The dolls are made by the Wish Factory Ltd. and they're ugly with molded hair and thick, articulated limbs that barely move. 

For me this was an excellent find because I needed clothes for my Liv Making Waves 'Jake' doll. I paid $4 for him at ToysRUs. His outfits cost too much money on Amazon and eBay. I'm always looking for cheap alternatives. 

Here they are side by side. The Cody Simpson doll is just hideous. He has a GI Joe doll action grip to hold a microphone. Anyway, I like Jake much better. He has 14 points of articulation. 

Liv dolls were made by Spin Master but are now discontinued. Le Sigh. 

Here's Jake wearing Cody's clothes and shoes. He looks great. Now he has a guitar, 2 outfits, 2 pairs if shoes, a jacket and 2 microphones. The sunglasses wouldn't fit so a Littlest Petshop Blythe inherited them. A great deal for $4.
