Monster High Honey Swamp by Mattel

This is Honey "Boo Boo" Swamp, Fright Camera  Action. She's the daughter of the swamp monster, whatever that is.

It took me awhile to find this doll here in NYC. I couldn't find her until after the holiday season was over. She was sold out everywhere. I was very disappointed because it was a decent price during the  holiday sales. I ended up paying full price. I really wanted her, though. She's my second favorite Monster High doll after Toralei Cat Tastrophe.

Her she is out of her box. I'm not sure if this is the actual stand she came with. I have so many MH stands at this point and I got them mixed up in a huge pile. She does come with a stand, of course. 

Her book/diary was boring as usual. Something about school. I don't know. I read it and immediately forgot it. I have no intentions of ever reading it again. 

She comes with a camera (because she's a filmmaker?). I wish she'd come with a cute purse that most of the MH dolls come with instead.

And whatever this thing is called. Can't remember and don't feel like Googling it. 

Honey Swamp is awesome. She's giving off some fierce, ghetto fabulous, Afro realness and I love her for it. She is beautiful. 

Her 'fro looks great from the back, too. 

Her small, plastic, pink hat is connected to a black headband. I'm not going to describe her too much because a picture is worth a thousand words, right? I had fun taking photos of her. 

Her pink, reptilian shoes. MH have the best shoes. 

I love her skin color and the designs on her skin. It makes her even more unique. 

Very cute dress. I just wish the shirt was longer. And I'm not too crazy about the fur underneath the skirt.

Don't cry for me, Argentina.

EDIT: Honey "Boo Boo" Swampwater Child's left leg fell off shortly after this review. 

A piece that was holding the leg on just popped off. If I glued it back together the leg probably wouldn't have been mobile anymore. Also her left upper arm was bent. I couldn't straighten it out. 

So what's a girl to do? I called Mattel's customer service explained the situation and answered a few questions. A few days alter I received a brand new one by FedEx. This doll is in much better shape than the one I originally bought. 

So thanks Mattel. They have great customer service. 

But I still hate Barbies. And I think it's stupid that they put her in Sports Illustrated because every grown man wants to see a plastic doll in a one piece bathing suit next to half naked supermodels.

My First Handmade Doll Wig

I did some brief research on the internet to learn how to make my own doll wigs. There are a lot of different methods; some detailed and time consuming (I dismissed those) and a few that looked relatively easy and quick (definitely made note of those).

This what I came up with:

This is Moxie Teenz Arizona wearing the new wig which turned out pretty good. 

I bought one bag of hair from a beauty supply store. It's called Ya Man Afro Kinky Braid 100% Kanekalon Fiber,

Red. I used the whole bag. 

I crocheted a wig cap with a size C hook and very fine (crochet thread?) black yarn. Then I folded a piece of hair in half and sewed the pieces onto the wig cap very carefully. When I was done I cut it to the desired length. I may cut it so more. I also sewed some of the hair in place in the front to style it a bit and to cover the wig cap which is black. I didn't have red thread. It probably would've looked a bit better with a red wig cap underneath. It wouldn't be so noticeable. 

I wanted to buy more wigs for my dolls from eBay but I gave up after awhile because the prices are outrageous. 

This is a much cheaper option. It was fun but more importantly it didn't take that much time. I'm definitely going to make more.

Here's a Liv's Alexis wearing the wig and an outfit I found on a doll at the thrift store. She looks cute. 

The wig cap is very soft and slippery so I have a piece of Velcro and two pins sticking in the dolls head to keep it on. 

This is a view of the wig from the back and the side. The black that's showing in the 2nd photo is the wig cap. 

All in all, I like making my own wigs. And I hate paying too much for everything on eBay.

LPS Blythes' My Froggy Stuff Treehouse

I followed a myfroggystuff tutorial on YouTube to make a treehouse for my five LPS Blythes. Then I learned how to use papier-mâché by watching Ginger Lola's YouTube tutorials.

It's made out of cardboard then covered with papier-mâché, painted and covered with clear glue to give it some shine. It was a lot of work but totally worth it. I love the way it came out. The papier-mâché makes it a lot sturdier. 

Most of the furniture and the luggage I also made by following more myfroggystuff tutorials. 

The door opens and closes. 

Now my Blythes and their pets have a fabulous treehouse to live in.

Thrift Store Finds - Doll Furniture

"I had $20 in my pocket...blah, blah, blah...it was so awesome!" 

I think that's how that song goes. Anyway, a new thrift store opened downtown so I had to drop in. I love this place. They have the BEST toy section I've ever seen in any of the thrift stores downtown. 

This is what I found:

A Barbie kitchenette. I have no idea when this came out or how much it originally cost. From the few photos I saw online, it came with a lot of accessories. It was a great find and only cost $1.69. You can't beat that. 

IKEA dollhouse furniture. 

This stuff is way overpriced on eBay. But then everything on eBay is overpriced. At the thrift store this whole set cost less than $20. 

Everything opens. I think the white one might be a refrigerator. 

The chairs are quite plain and ugly. Oh well, I'll find something to do with them. 

I didn't buy the couch because it was just as ugly as the chairs and cost $1.99. No way was I paying that much when I could make something much better and fancier. 

Bath tub, sink and toilet. The long red and white striped pillow goes with the couch I didn't buy. I don't know what the blue and white thing is. Maybe a sheet for the bed?

The kitchen set. The doors on the oven open. 

I'll probably repaint this stuff and put it in the dollhouse that I'm fixing up. 

Two doll stands. They cost $1.69. A victrola and a mini piano pencil sharpeners. Now my Lalaloopsies have a piano. The Liv dolls will probably get the Victrola. 

I love going thrifting because I never know what I'll find. 

I wouldn't have bought anything but the doll stands at retail price. It can cost $20 to furnish one dollhouse room. I think that's nuts! Teeny tiny miniature furniture for a lousy dollhouse shouldn't be expensive at all. Don't even get me started on how overpriced all dollhouses and dollhouse kits are especially those hideous plastic monsters that are sold at toy stores and all the crap that comes with them. 

Thank God for thrift stores.

Ever After High's Briar Beauty Doll

Ever After High is a line of dolls that are teenaged children of fairy tale characters. They're made by Mattel. I bought this one at ToysRUs for a very decent price. 

This is Briar Beauty. She's the royal daughter of Sleeping Beauty and she's always tired and might fall asleep for 100 years any minute so she always wants to try something new. 

Enough with the boring story. There are Ever After High Webisodes on YouTube but I never watch them. I like to watch the EAH stop motion movies on YouTube. Much more fun. 

Anyway, I've had this doll for a little while now. I just want to say that her hair is absolutely atrocious right out of the box. There's plenty of it but it is an absolute frizzy mess. Her hair is the worst of all the EAH dolls, me thinks. I don't know what I'm going to do with that hair. 

These are her accessories. She comes with a stand. Her purse doesn't open. Sigh. The sunglasses are cheap and flimsy. Everything else is very nice. The roses on her shoulders are a nice touch and they can be removed. She also has a ring, earrings, bracelets, hair brush and book marker with her story. 

The bottom half of her dress is a rose petal. Very beautiful. This doll is covered with roses from head to toe. 

Her shoes are adorable. I really love the shoes on EAH dolls. 

Her pantyhose is just to die for. 

As you can see, she is a classic beauty. EAH dolls are very conventional compared to MH. (I guess I'm stating the obvious, here.) The attention to detail, their articulation and expressive hands is why I love these dolls. 

I tried wetting her hair and brushing it which did help tame it. 

Briar beauty is a blast to photograph. I had a lot of fun taking photos of her.

I made this for her because every royal beauty needs somewhere to lounge after she gets out of school. 

More lounging. It's not like she has chores to do or anything. Just a little homework, a little studying. After all, her future is set.
