Ever After High Dexter Charming

I finally got the Ever After High Dexter Charming doll for a great price from Amazon on Cyber Monday. Shipping was so fast. It was incredible.

Dexter is a prince so he's a royal.

I'm so excited. I've wanted him for a long time but I couldn't find him in the toy stores. The online price was ridiculous until Cyber Monday.

I need more male dolls that are articulated. They're hard to find at a reasonable price.

I can't wait until Mattel releases another boy from Ever After High. I hope they release Dexter's brother Daring Charming or the one that wears green and plays guitar in the webisodes on YouTube. I forgot his name and I don't feel like googling it.

This is the back of his box. It has an interview with Dexter. It says his roommate Hunter Huntsman and other crap. It's in French and English.

I'm very happy that the doll doesn't have that stupid smirk on his face.

His hair was a complete mess out of the box so I fixed that first. I used regular old hair gel to slick it down. I like his hair best this way. He's a very good looking young man.

Here he is wearing his glasses and crown. I don't like this look at all. These will be the first to go.

His clothes and accessories seem to be made out of cheap materials. They aren't as nice as Hunter Huntman's. Nothing he's wearing matches. He's clashing like crazy. Maybe Mattel was going for the newest, ironic hipster look. I guess that explains the ugly glasses with no lenses. How cheap. I hate it.

I have no idea what this is supposed to be. Don't care, either. It's hideous.

Here are his high top sneakers. Hunter's boots are much better.

There is simply no excuse for this sorry backpack. It's made out of dull looking, hollow plastic. It doesn't even open. Precious natural resources were wasted to make this.

There isn't anything I can do with this thing. I'll probably throw it away. I don't even want it taking up space in my tiny apartment. I couldn't get it to show up very well in photos. Just ugly.

At least, Hunter's bag can open and close and you can put stuff in it.

I'll buy Dexter a new one soon.

Dexter and Hunter have the same exact hands. Why? I just don't know.

Here's Dexter and Hunter. Great looking guys.

I put Hunter's boots on one of my Taeyangs. I broke a foot prying the boots off Taeyang's foot. I glued his foot back together the best I could.

I learned a very valuable lesson. I'll never put a pair of boots on a Taeyang ever again.

Here are their stands. Pretty much the same.

Here are Liv dolls wearing Apple White's and Dexter's glasses.

Hunter and Dexter are much better looking than Liv doll Jake but Jake has more dexterity. He can do crazy poses. He's just real ugly.

These two look like they're more than roommates to me.

Hunter has inherited the crown. Dexter doesn't mind. It looks better on him. He looks like a Persian prince.

Guess who makes a cute couple?

Here's Hunter wearing his new crown and sitting on his new throne. He makes a pretty good royal.

The Monster High-ification of 1970's Pimp & Ho Culture

I'm old enough to remember Times Square, in New York City, in the '70's before it was Disneyfied. I remember the pimps, hookers, johns, triple X porn theaters, Kung fu movies and American cab drivers. It was a lot like the movie Taxi Driver, only difference was there were a lot more People of Color or minorities.

I also lived near a train station that was Hooker Central. Every night was like a parade of hookers up and down the Ho' Stroll. There were a lot of taxis around the train station, too. Ah, the good old days.

(In case you haven't caught on by now, this post isn't going to be very PC. Stop reading now if you're delicate sensibilities are easily offended.)

Now in the Glory Days of Hookers, BC (Before Crack) street walkers looked a lot like this:

This is Clawdeen Wolf. (I don't own any of these photos.) She's the 15 year old daughter of the Werewolf. Now I know that nowadays a lot of teenage girls dress like hookers so this doll isn't completely inaccurate.

The prostitutes I saw wore straight or Afro wigs of every color imaginable, platform boots, usually shiny, metallic gold or something just as outlandish, always a short skirt, usually a loud color with the ever present rabbit fur jacket. Of course, the makeup and jewelry were usually garish. Oh, it was a sight to behold.

If you want to know what they looked like just take a look at this doll because the Ho' Stroll was obviously Mattel's motivation when they designed this doll. They must have fond memories of the '70's just like I do.

Every time I see this doll all I see is a prostitute. I'm not judging prostitutes or saying that they're bad, immoral or whatever. I'm not clutching my pearls here or gasping for my Rosewater as I clutch my Bible in my other hand. I am commenting on the fact that this is what I see and I know that not everyone feels the same way I do.

I've seen YouTube videos where Clawdeen is given a ghetto, hoochie mama accent. I'm sure it's meant to be satire or something. I've never watched any of the Monster High YouTube webisodes so I have no idea how she sounds in that. But I can just imagine.

She has a brother Clawd:

He's 17 years old.

Remove the fangs and ears, give him a gold grill, give those boots heels, put him in front of a Cadillac and it's straight pimpin' time right out of a blackploitation movie.

These dolls are quite popular. There isn't anything wrong with that.

And then there's this:

The Bottom B of the Wolf family. Her name is Clawdia. Nothing says "I'm A Ho" louder than a yellow wig, red socks and yellow shoes. In the '80's and '90's, I actually saw crackho's who would wear glow in the dark wigs, high heeled shoes with socks and tacky makeup when they were at, uh, work. I lived in a bad neighborhood.

I've also seen every blackploitation movie ever made. (I once worked at a video store.)

I've made comments about the hookerish look of these dolls before on other people's blogs. For that, I'm truly sorry. I shouldn't have done that. I should've saved those comments for my own blog.

Some anonymous person, who was too much of a coward to use any kind of name, would always comment that I was being rude. What would we do without women in middle America who are easily offended by absolutely everything? I cannot imagine wasting my life getting butt sore over a comment a stranger made about a cheap, plastic doll.

There isn't anything wrong with being or, even, dressing cheap, tacky, gawdy, ghetto, hookerish or whatever. If people want these dolls or even love them, I'm not here to judge them. There isn't anything wrong with making these dolls or buying them.

I love Bratz dolls and, God knows, those things are tacky.

This is Bratz Babyz Roxxi. There is so much wrong with this doll. She's wearing a bikini with a faux leather jacket. Her finger and toenails are painted red. She has a Marilyn Monroe beauty mark and she's wearing red lipstick. Why would anyone sexualize a toddler? Who thought this was a good idea?

The one member of the Wolf family I think has a fun look is Howleen:

She is the baby sister of the family. She's so boss. This is how my friends and I would dress up when we were "New Wave" in the '80's. She reminds me of every movie I've seen starring Molly Ringwald. She reminds me of the Ramones, the Smiths, Siouxxie and the Banshees, Tears For Fears, the Psychedelic Furs, and Cyndi Lauper.
She's the only one who doesn't look like a throwback to the 1970's Ho' trade.

And that's my 2 cents.

So In Style Grace and Courtney

So In Style Hair Fun Grace and Courtney were also on clearance at Target. I thought this was an excellent deal. They are sisters.

Their only accessories are  two clip in, colored hair extensions, barrettes and a brush. I don't have any use for these. Neither of them have earrings.

The back of their box.

Grace's outfit is very interesting and unusual. The green belt around her waist is plastic and clips on. It doesn't go all away around.

I don't think her shoes are anything special. Typical Barbie shoes. She isn't wearing any jewelry. I think she would've looked better with a pair of pants or capris.

Her hair is stick straight. No texture at all.

Here she is without her clip-on belt.

She's wearing a stretchy, short jumpsuit. There isn't any opening in the back. She's articulated just like the Barbie fashionistas.

This is little Courtney. She is super cute. Her eyes are hazel. Her outfit is adorable but I don't like the boots. I would've preferred a different type of shoes. Maybe sneakers. Her clothes and shoes are easy to remove.

She has the same hair that Grace does. Someday I'll give these girls more texture in their hair. Or maybe some curls.

Courtney and Chelsea.

Here is an old Barbie Fashionista body with a Liv doll and Grace, who has the new body. As you can see, the old body is much better. Her torso can bend.

There's much more movement in the first two dolls. The Liv doll can wear flat or high heel shoes unlike Barbie dolls who are always on tippy toes. Liv's knee caps give them more flexibility in their legs.

Barbie Fashionista Nikki and Grace. Both dolls are very beautiful. For some reason, Nikki's head is much bigger than Grace's head. Grace's eyes are green.

Barbie Fashionista Nikki and Easter Chelsea

There's a clearance sale going on right now at Target so I finally got Nikki. I've wanted this doll for awhile.

Here's the back of the box. Apparently, there are four Fashionista dolls made by Mattel. Barbie, of course, and two others. I don't know their names.

She's stunning and pretty. Her accessories are stylish and unique. I do like this doll's hair a lot. It's very soft and better quality than some dolls.

She didn't come with a stand. Her only accessory was her purse. I'm not too crazy about the long, plastic, purple earrings.

Her gold armband and bracelet look like works of art to me. These are going to look nice on all of my dolls, too.

Not nearly as much thought and effort seems to go into the design of these shoes as Monster High and Ever After High, which are often the same price. Barbies feet are much smaller than those dolls so they can't share shoes, which is a shame.

The articulation isn't as good as Liv dolls bit it's better than nothing.

Her mobility is very good. Her head bends up and down and turns from side to side. Elbows and wrists bend easily. She doesn't turn or bend at the waist. Knees bend easily. Very sturdy. Not as delicate as Pullips. Good, sturdy play dolls.

Also made by Mattel is Easter Chelsea. I found her at a thrift store. She is Barbie's little sister. These dolls are so adorable and cute. Excellent quality hair and pretty brown eyes. There isn't much mobility with these dolls. They will make excellent little sisters for my dolls.

She's 5 1/2 inches tall. Her shoes and clothes are easily removable. I think her headband is supposed to be a rabbit or a sheep. The same animal is on her basket.

Here are some of my smaller dolls. LPS Blythe, Chelsea, a Lil' One, Courtney, AG Isabelle happy meal toys, mini Lalaloospies.

Hope you enjoyed my reviews and photos of my growing doll collection.
