Monster High's Robecca Steam

She is one of my favorite Monster High dolls. I like anything Steampunk, really. I don't care for the Dance Class Robecca at all. 

I made a longer skirt so she could sit with some modesty. Her original skirt was much too short. I cut her boots so that more of her skin would show. (I'm kind of regretting that. I wish I'd left them alone.)

She is beautiful. She's not a strange looking monster (not that there's anything wrong with that). Her skin is radiant. (Now I sound like an Oil of Olay commercial). Her face up is awesome. So much better looking than a Barbie doll. Her features are well balanced and very attractive. Her makeup isn't garish. It's very tasteful. 

She has wonderful bronze skin that's covered with rivets because she a mechanical robot.  

There are cogs on her shins. 

Robecca is a robot created by a mad scientist. Her internal clock is always off so she's always late for classes and such.

Her hair is very soft and nice and shiny unlike a lot of my other MH dolls. The blue adds a very nice touch. 

She is 116 years old according to her bio. Her boots are rocket boots. Apparently, she can fly, or something, with these boots. She did come with a black stand. 

I've lost her journal. From what I can remember the story in it was very good.

These are the rest of her accessories. 

The blue thing she wears on her wrist has a digital clock on it. I think it helps her regulate time. Her goggles have an antennae on them. Her earrings are cogs and gears. I cut them because I thought they were too long. I don't like long earrings on my dolls or myself. 

I'm not sure what this is. It looks like a bird cage that she wears around her waist. She can't sit down with it on. 

Her bag does open and close. It's also a clock. 

This is her mechanical penguin, Captain Penny. He's so cute. I like the way he's waving. 

He has a jet pack on his back. His skin is also bronzed and covered with rivets. 

This is my homage to one of the best Monster High dolls in my modest collection.

Liv Doll Sophie Styling Head

I got this at a thrift store recently. I paid $1.99 for it. These are still being sold on Amazon for a ridiculous amount of money and much cheaper on eBay. 

Originally they came with a wig, plastic jewelry and hair clips. As you can see, mine didn't have any of that. 

I got it because it was so cheap and I love Liv dolls. They're the best. Most of the 12 inch dolls I buy get a new Liv doll body. 

I use this as a wig stand for one of my wigs. 

Here she in one of my wigs. It looks cute on her. Doesn't look bad on me, either. 

This is much better than those white, styrofoam wig things they sell at the hair supply store and it's just as affordable.

American Girl - Kirsten Larson

She is a hot mess. I found her at a thrift store. I paid $3.99 for her. The elastic in her pantaloons is shot so they keep falling down. 

Her name is Kirsten Larson. She is an historical doll. She's was born in Ryd, Sweden in 1845 and moved with her family to the Minnesota frontier. She's wearing her original meet pioneer outfit from 1854. This doll was released in 1986, retired in early 2010. 

I learned some of this from the American Girl/Our Generation Dolls an (sic) Accessories Facebook group and www.americangirl.com. 

Right eye is cockeyed, giving her that crackhead look. 

Her hair is a wreckage. I heard it can be fixed with Downy Fabric Softener and a wire brush. 

She doesn't have a tag on her body. Her skin is tan. Her limbs are very loose. 

I don't know what's going on with her shoes. They're in rough shape. 

I called American Girl's 800 number to find out about their doll hospital. It's located in Wisconsin. It would cost $44 plus tax plus shipping to get her head replaced, general cleaning and limbs tightened. 

I was told that there are a lot of tutorials on www.youtube.com for fixing American Girl dolls. I'm going to try that option. 

This is my first AG doll. I think she was a great find. I'm glad I finally have one. I also found a lot of AG clothes at the thrift store. She'll have a nice wardrobe. 

It's going to take me awhile to restore her to original state. If her hair can't be saved I'll get her another wig. 

If anyone knows anything about restoring AG dolls, please leave a comment. I'd appreciate any help I can get. 

EDIT:

I watched YouTube tutorials to learn how to fix this poor doll. I learned a lot so I wanted to share with everyone the process so far. 

I learned how to remove the head and tighten the limbs. It was real easy. 

At the same time, I let her hair soak in Downy fabric softener overnight. 

These are my hair supplies. Braid and wig spray $1.99, a wig brush and a flat iron. 

I went to several beauty and hair supply stores but couldn't find a steel brush. I wasn't going to the city to the AG store to pay $8 for a hair brush. 

This is how her hair looks now. Big difference. I trimmed it a little to make it even. Her hair is so soft, shiny and straight. 

The roots didn't come out so well but they don't look as bad as they did when I got her. 

Her bangs came out like this. It's very disappointing.

Now I have to work on her bangs. I will not rest until this madness is straightened out. 

I washed her clothes by hand and ironed them. I need to replace the elastic in her pantaloons. That's going to take awhile because I'm in no mood to pull out the sewing machine. Wiped off her shoes with a damp rag. So far, she's looking good. 

More progress:

I took Kirsten out to get some air. I washed and pressed her clothes. I still haven't replaced the elastic in her bloomers. Will get around to that someday. 

That's the best I could do on her bangs. 

Her hair is still super dry. I think I will re-wig her at some point. 

Here she is having some fun and hanging out with a few friends on the boardwalk. That's Heart 4 Heart Lauryce and Doc McStuffins. Doc is wearing Lauryce's sweater. She was a little chilly.

Evanora - Oz: Great and Powerful Movie

I saw this movie. Didn't really think much of it. The only character I liked was China Girl. I got the 12" China Girl doll from ToysRUs.

I got this Evanora doll from the thrift store. This is the one that's sold at ToysRUs. Made by a company called Jakks Pacific. I heard that the Oz dolls from the Disney Store were better quality. 

She is very beautiful. Her red hair is gorgeous. She doesn't look anything like the actor in the movie but she's still beautiful. 

Her dress is elegant. She's missing her necklace and some kind if feather thing that was in her hair. I don't care about either of those things. 

Her hair had loads of gel in it and was very crunchy. I washed it all out. Now her hair is so soft. 

The dress looks a little jacked up from the back. 

She doesn't have much articulation. Her elbows bend but that's about it besides the usual. Her head moves up and down and from side to side. 

She can still be very dramatic, though. 

She looks like a movie star from Old Hollywood. 

Without her dress she looks like a superhero. That black garment is painted on. It looks very sexy. 

Her legs don't bend at all. No clicky knees like a Barbie doll. If she sits down her legs stick straight out. Not sexy. 

I might swap her body with a Liv doll just to give her more movement. Then I'd have to paint that bodysuit on because I really like that look. 

I'm glad to add her to my collection. Just wish her knees could bend.

TaeYang Captain Hook Doll

I have never in my life been interested in a Captain Hook doll but when I saw this doll on Amazon for $29.99 plus free shipping I had to have another TaeYang doll.

He is Captain Hook from Disney's animated Peter Pan movie. I haven't seen it since I was a kid and can't remember a thing about it. This doll was released 10/2008. 

This is the photo on the back of the box. 

They are packed very well. 

That hat is huge. 

His mustache is a sticker that has to be put on. It looks stupid. I will not be putting it on him. Ever. 

His face is a strange color. It isn't the same color as the rest of his body. It's also shiny. 

His eyeliner is very nice. 

He only had plastic on his arms. It was easy to take off. Just like my Willy Wonka doll, his left leg came off at the knee. I just shoved it back on and prayed. 

This is as much as his eyes will close. I have no idea why. It looks like he's high and about to pass out. 

I thought I was going to hate this wig and have to rip it off his head the minute I saw it but I like it a lot. I'll keep it. 

There are cracks on both thighs. I hope they don't get worse. Le sigh. Might have to glue this. 

His feet and hands are a different color than the rest of his body. 

His clothes are excellent quality. These are the best made doll clothes I've come across. 

I was planning on selling his wig and clothes on eBay. I changed my mind. I really like them. 

The bottom of his shoe. 

Not fond of those eyebrows. Luckily, the hair covers most of them. 

I didn't want to pose him too much. Didn't want to break him.

This is Moxie Teenz Arizona in Captain Hook's jacket. It's a perfect fit and looks great on her. 

Here's The Captain and Switchblade Willy. They're going to become great friends. They're both thugs. ;-)

I need more boy dolls so I'm glad I got these two. I'm going to have a lot of fun with them.
